Corrupted Roots are easy to ignore at first, then you use a few and realise why everyone's talking about them. In the Lord of Hatred expansion, they're one of the cleaner ways to chase specific materials and gear slots without wandering around for hours hoping the game feels generous. If you're trying to patch a weak build, replace bad rolls, or stock up on D4 items that actually matter to your character, these roots can save a lot of dead time. Just don't burn through them too early. Get into the Tree of Whisper War Plans first and work toward Roots of Power, plus the Headrotten Feat nodes. Without those upgrades, the payoff feels thinner than it should.
Where you plant them matters
The best part is that Corrupted Roots aren't just random loot buttons. The region changes what you're likely to get, so you can aim your farming instead of crossing your fingers. Dry Steppes is the spot when you need Obducite or boots. Khejistan is better if your gold pile is looking sad, and it can also help with chest armor. Hawezar is where a lot of players park themselves for Forgotten Souls and gloves, because the return feels worth the time. Skovos leans toward heavy two-handed weapons and Horadric Cube materials. Nahantu is useful for rings and Scrolls of Restoration, while Scosglen gives helmets and Sigil Powder. Fractured Peaks is handy for Ruby fragments and more chest armor rolls.
Run roots with other players
If you've got a group, use it. Seriously, this is one of those farms where playing solo just feels wasteful. Material drops are shared across the party, so four players can take turns planting roots and everyone gets paid. One person drops a root, the group clears the monsters, then the next person goes. It's simple, and it stacks up fast. Forgotten Souls are a good example. Farming them alone can feel slow and a bit miserable, but in a full party the rhythm is much better. You're not doing anything fancy. You're just making the system work the way players always try to make systems work: faster, cleaner, and with fewer empty runs.
Keep Whisper points coming in
The real trick is staying supplied. Nightmare Dungeons are usually a strong pick, especially when they're marked as Whisper activities. You don't need to mess with a sigil in that case; just open the map and go. Legion events and World Bosses are worth checking too, since the timers are predictable and the point payout is solid. If you don't mind a bit of risk, PvP zones can be surprisingly good. Kill the Abomination, purify some seeds, and you can grab quick points without spending half the night there. Helltides are useful as well, but the Blood Maiden is often faster than roaming around for chests.
Build a quick farming loop
A smooth loop makes the whole thing feel less like a chore. Check the map, hit the fast Whisper objectives, turn in when you're capped, then plant your roots in the region that matches what you need. The Undercity and the Pits can be quick on lower tiers, and Lair Boss keys are worth watching because they sometimes line up with Whisper tasks when you're not expecting it.
